SELF EVALUATION

1. What have been your successes?
I have really enjoyed the projects that i have done in viscom and feel that i have come out with some good portfolio work.
I have learnt to use sketchbooks alot better than i used to at school
i have started using alot more techniques such as collage and improved my drawing style/technique.

2. What have been your frustrations?
I sometimes find it hard to come up with an idea.
being un-organised with work and equipment.

3. What have you learned about Vis Com?
There are alot of possibilities and pathways you can go down most of which quite interest me,
such as graphics advertising, film etc.

4. What have you been affected by in Contextual Studies?
I like the lectures in contextual studies and always find that they open up new ideas to me.

5. Have you done anything that you consider to be about Vis Com (in its broadest sense),
that was not directed by the course?

6. What are you reading?
a book called Design on the highstreet which was for the last project i did.

7. What were the last 2 exhibitions you saw? Would you recommend them? Why?
I recently went to the saatchi gallery to see the collection there was a very good installation in one of the rooms at the back, which was basically a big mirror so it looked like there was a big drop beneath you and this was definetly worth seeing.
Christian Marclay "the Clock" Although i did not see this at the whitecube because i found out about it too late, but i have seen clips of it it is a really good piece of video art where he takes parts of films which feature a clock and the effort and work that went into finding the clips and editing them together must have taken ages.

8. What have you seen, done or experienced that has intrigued or enlightened you?
I have enjoyed the most recent project i did with shopfronts, and through that i have looked at Ed ruschas work

9. What are your four college choices? Briefly explain why you have chosen these courses/universities.
-Chelsea
-LCC
-Camberwell
-?
i like the look of the chelsea graphics course and i enjoyed the talk on it i found all the work very interesting
for Lcc i like the fact that media is incorporated with graphics annd the fact that there is an advertising pathway.

Crossroads II

During these eight weeks at Chelsea, I have enjoyed all the courses and developed a lot of skills and techniques. Before coming to Chelsea I thought that I would definitely go into a 3D type course, but when it came down to it I did not enjoy 3D Spatial as much as the other rotations. The course which I feel was most successful was probably Visual Communications, I enjoyed all parts of this rotation especially when we had to come up with a message that we had to send, I thought that this rotation really got me thinking creatively, but I also enjoyed fine art a lot so I am a little unsure of which course to specialize in.
My work compared to A-level has changed a lot I have become a lot more free when it comes to drawing for example I would always use a ruler to draw and I would always do technical type drawings, but at Chelsea I have been using continuous line drawing a lot. I have also used a lot more different techniques at Chelsea. At A-level I would always spend quite a lot of time getting started on a piece of work and I would often get stuck, but now my approach has changed and if I don’t really get stuck in between pieces of work I will just try out different methods to make something else.
The other day I realized how much work I had done compared to a-level and in 8 weeks at Chelsea I have probably done more work than I would have done in half a year at school.
I have learnt about many interesting artists and designers at Chelsea for instance I found the Dominic Wilcox lecture very interesting and inspiring, especially because he went down a Visual Communication route but still did 3D work. Also the Muybridge exhibition at the Tate was quite interesting.
I did not think I would enjoy Fashion and Textiles and Fine Art, but I felt these rotations were very interesting I did a lot of good drawing and in Fashion & textiles we were told to use a continuous line drawing technique which I had never really used before, but I found it a very good way of drawing and it is a technique which I will definitely use a lot throughout the rest of the foundation course.
Whilst doing art at A-level I was very much into 3D type stuff such as architecture and product design, but now I feel that I am bored of this kind of work and this is probably why I didn’t enjoy 3D Spatial as much as I thought I would and this is probably why I want to try out something new such as Vis Com. I have always been interested in making things and hopefully I can still do this in the area which I choose.
I felt that whilst doing fine art I was still doing the sort of work which I was doing in Vis Com, which makes me think that this is probably the course for me.

I was not looking forward to fine art at all before i started it, but when i got into it i  really enjoyed it i did alot of drawing and collage which i am very happy with, the fine art course seems very good here at chelsea. the tutors are very helpful when coming up with ideas. i am still not sure which rotation i am going to speciallize in yet possibly viscom.

At first i did not think i would enjoy this part course at all, but as i got into it i began to enjoy it especially all the continuous line drawing we did. i feel that i have come out with a good amount of work which i am happy with.
